If I Was An Activity Book

I’d be more willing to play your games.
Allow you to connect the dots in any order you please.

I’d be a beautiful spring day,
depicted with purple grass and cyan skies.

If I were an optimist

I’d believe in change,
growth
beauty
and Santa Clause

If I were beautiful

I’d know it
I’d own it

If I were talented

I’d be featured
I’d be rich

If I were brave

I’d admit the truth
and I’d lose again

But I’m not,
so stop playing with me.

I’m like a box marked fragile,
if you drop me, I WILL break.

So stop trying to color me red.
Stop trying to color me sweet,
stop trying to color me idyllic
and feminine
and sober
and dull.

I was not a blank page when we met,
and I never will be.
