My roots are photographing the skateboard and punk rock scene in the San Francisco Bay area in the mid 80’s, and long before extreme sports was a household name. His influences include artists such as Joel Peter-Witkin, Francesca Woodman, Starn Brothers, Robert Rauschenberg, Francis Bacon and Nan Goldin. His experimentation with photographs includes working directly with the negatives, scratching them, using photo bleach, charcoal, paint, and a various other methods to arrive at something purely original. “I started out as a painter back in the day and was drawn to photography as an extension of my art. So combining paint and photography was just a logical progression for me. I believe in letting my art tell me what it wants to be”.
