Well, we saw a record number of bears so far this year- almost a dozen, but of course, the only bear that was going to let me get some really good pictures of him was Baldy, aka ‘the ugly bear’. If you look close, you will notice this particular black bear, whom we encountered on the eastern slopes of Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada- had somehow rubbed all off the fur on his face off! Or else he had some kind of localized mange? Perhaps he just hadn’t got around to shedding the rest?? Either way, here is is in all his cutie-pie, bald bear glory- and I am still glad he let me take his picture, he was great fun to watch and it is always a thrill to see a bear in the mountains!
