Hope?

This is one of about 240 amur leopards left on the planet. Only 40 or so remain in the wild; the remainder are in zoos which are attempting breeding programs to save this creature from extinction. Is there hope for the amur leopard, or will it go the way of the countless other species that are lost to us on a daily basis…

Thank you all so much. These leopards really are so gorgeous; it is so sad to think that they might disappear. Dharna, I agree; we are supposed to be at the top, yet we destroy so much around us… But I have to hope that our power to save creatures and our planet is at least equal to our power to destroy…

I recently heard about the plight of the Amur Leopard when watching the Planet Earth Series on Discovery. This is a beautiful shot and let’s hope there is some success in saving these beautiful animals.

She reminds us how fragile the balance is and how dependent on us they are to survive. The close proximity of the Amur’s habitat to China and major harbours provide an easy smuggling to Asian medicinal markets. Largely destroyed habitat and poverty-driven poaching prove a complex task to the conservation programmes aiming to help the Amur Leopard.
