Honesty
Most wouldn’t believe me, but I’m actually terribly shy. I much prefer to hide behind the camera or behind the beautiful subjects that I photography or behind pretty much anything and everything to tell you the truth. So the idea of self-portraits pretty much terrifies me, for obvious reasons. The other silly self-portrait (the one in my avatar) doesn’t scare me too much because truthfully, it doesn’t really look much like me. This one, on the other hand… this one is very honest…
I’ve always had a tendency to be kind of invisible, and I like it that way—it is how I’m most comfortable. But, I’ve heard it said that one doesn’t grow as a person from the safety of one’s comfort zone. So here I am, stepping out from the comfort zone… And I’m cringing as I click the “add this image to RedBubble” button…

a good self-port is a balance between vanity and vulnerability. i see a lot of posturing with SP’s and i have been guilty of doing so myself, but i get a great sense of real time self-projection here. i know this isn’t your strong suit, but you have done a beautiful job and should be proud of this. cheers, James

Erin,
Self portraits are difficult, imo, because we often do not see ourselves as others see us. This image is quite a step from your portfolio of gorgeous wildlife captures but it shows your adaptability and without sounding forward, there is certainly nothing wring with the subject. Thanks for keeping it tasteful though, you seem a like a real classy person and that image is still intact in my mind. Call me old fashioned but that works for me. ;)

Add a little glow and softness a touch of grain and it would look like a David Hamilton.
