The child of a geologist and a biologist, I was originally trained in mathematics before starting a career as a database engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a slight career shift to research administration, I adopted three hobbies with a vengeance: painting, cello and evolutionary biology.
Fast forward seven years. I’m now a student in the Design Silversmithing and Jewellery Foundation Degree program at London Metropolitan University in the Sir John Cass School of Art Media and Design. (Phew!) My humble goal is to become a leading silversmith, jeweller, designer, teacher and champion of fine art and craft.
I believe ferociously in cultivating craft, as well as art and music. Mastery of these skills is, to my mind, the best way to connect with one’s cultural history and to beat back the more unsavory trappings of modern culture, such as 32oz plastic cups.
Though it’s early days, my personal style is emerging quickly in my paintings and in my designs (most of which I don’t yet have the skills to make, though I’m remedying this as quickly as possible). I am interested in themes from nature (geological, biological, physical, mathematical) and in finding particularly satisfying forms, color harmonies and textural contrasts. I plan to explore these through large silver pieces, precious metal jewellery, enamel, gems, paint, and whatever other materials and techniques suit my needs.
In the mean time, I thank you for reading this far, and hope you’ll check back periodically for new pieces, drawings, etc. as they happen.
