that night beside some bright river
drunk on whiskey and promise
the stars shone so bright I thought…
i could see a life with you by their light
(what a good imagination the poet has)
I knew the big dipper
you knew how to kiss me, to fool me
Your sister showed the little caravan
park girls
how to swing from the pole
(you couldn’t swing, could you?)
you wore my happy hat and smoked pot
so beautiful it hurt to look at you
it still hurts (for different reasons?)
because you are not sure
love me or get out (do you mean it?)
from under my skin
the photograph looks like a memory
one day I will burn it (good, do it now)
or frame it…(ah, fool)
