Heavy Metal Diorama. by EarthquakeBee

Posted on April 01, 2010

Let me throw this out:
The word diorama can either refer to a nineteenth century mobile theatre device, or, in modern usage, a three-dimensional full-size or miniature model.

Well, this is my diorama.
Full band on stage: Ozzy. Tony, Robbie, Angus, Animal.

Full band on stage visible vinyl record ceiling.

View of empty stage dimensional effect.

Lights close-up. Or “how to fix miniature lightning to copper foiled walls”.

Drummer close-up.

Full box cenital view.

Full box left side view.

Full box right side view.

A bit of the build-up:
Used one of those boxes that you get in Christmas full of goodies. Cut it to shape I wanted and install all wiring for the lights before starting pimping it up.

Inside, the box is mounted with foam and copper foil, nothing else.

Then I worked on the front view of the back of the stage, where the drummer would be. Lights too (3 light spots), and hubbie had to help me with the wired as first attempt I got it mixed up, then it worked just fine.

Then tested light effect on the copper wall. I loved it. Love it.

Inside I built-up walls and flames with copper and foam.

It is actually very simple, I don’t think total hours of work exceeded 20, that is including the handcrafting of the…
HEAVY METAL FINGER PUPPETS.

Oh yes, and this is it at home:

This diorama is dedicated to two very important men in my life:
- My husband, who copes with me everyday (not so simple as it sounds) and lets me build things on the coffee table and teaches me about music without losing his temper; and because along the years he has helped me to become a better listening person and to recognise Judas Priest when I hear the ’’aAAaaAAAAaah!
- And Bon Scott. Because without Bon Scott, nothing of this would have never happened. And whoever loves Rock, understands my statement.

“Thank you people, thank you, I hope you liked the show”.

love the way you made the stage look like a road case, your plectrum (pick) bracelet aint too shabby either.

  • EarthquakeBee:

When I started working on it I didnt really believe I’d manage to bring it to life the way it was in my head – but hell it worked! Ah the plectrums are from Austin, Texas – gotta love it :)
