Ahh! The soft evening light in this brings to mind many balmy evenings and soft, gentle breezes. It’s OK, I haven’t got completely daft! I used to live in the lee of Tomaree, sheltered from that nor’easter I see chopping up the water past the point!! Lovely, Sonia. ;-)

  • EarthGipsy replied

You got it girl…...every afternoon and it plays hell with my Kayak… do I need to get fit!!

It’s been unusually humid over the last week here – feels like i’m back in Brissie…..air con. getting a good work out!

  • Anne-Marie Ladegaard

    Anne-Marie Lad...

Lovely! Looks like the kind of place I could enjoy a long lazy walk! :)

  • EarthGipsy replied

And you can do that all around the Peninsula….or cycle. Great spot to “be”! Pleased you like it.

If you go to my profile page, I’ve moved all my Tilligerry works to the front – so you can see where else around here you can enjoy a long walk…..but don’t tell anyone, I like the peace and quiet!

Enjoy the week end Anne-Marie :-)

Back in the 1950s my husband’s family camped on this beach for about three months while looking for a spot to live – no facilities other than a an old tent, sunny skies and salt water. His dad would bring the water home each day in a container filled in the park at Stockton. Two adults and four kids, they all had a ball living here. My husband remembers catching sight of himself in a shop window once and his salt thickened hair was a fright. My how the world has changed. Thanks for memories of the stories told and great shot Sonia.

  • EarthGipsy replied

World out here hasn’t changed all that much! Still campers down here at times – but mostly young adults discovering our great otudoors – they tend to get moved on. We don’t mind having them there if they are gentle on the ears and the environment! I’d rather see them camping out than sitting inside all day!

As for the shops out this way – I’m suprised there were any back in the 1950’s, certainly in the 1960’s & 70’s there were only as many then, as there are now (which is exactly how I like it!).

I remember back in 1976, they subdivided blocks on the creek front (of which I have not uploaded any pics yet!). Those waterfront blocks were sthen elling for $2,000 each…...... Augh, if only we all had crystal balls back then (lol!)

There weren’t any shops just the Browns boat shed with the basics. Phil can’t really remember too much about how his mother coped food wise but dad worked in the woolstores in town so brought stuff home most days.

  • EarthGipsy replied

There was plenty of fish, crab, lobster & oysters around in those days – that would have done it!

The exposure was perfect for the soft end of day light, looks like a very natural beach without signs of mankind’s intrusion, well captured Sonia,
    Regards, Rod.

  • EarthGipsy replied

Me and my dog are generally the only mankind intrusion down there Rod – it’s a bit of a secret!
