Acrylic, collage, marker
This artwork is my response to information overload, stressors (both good and bad) that we encounter every day, the need to control the influence of these and personally to take ownership of their effect on my health.
I have portrayed the information that bombards me and how it influences my moods; the pulsing noise of the building sites surrounding where I live, flashing lights, signs, ads on TV, intrusions of music on public transport, mobile phones, sms messages, loud speakers, beeping car horns, sound system levels, the colourful spines of books on a shelf aching to be read, the pace of the city and suburbs all invading my world, the need to keep up with the pace of the world around me OR push the buttons, take control, take time out and turn off the inputs that I don’t need.
Painted in vivid acrylic paints, the collaged buttons reflect my mixed feelings about these inputs. Sometimes they are overwhelming, sometimes invigorating. Seeing unexpected colour in my surroundings uplifts me and I see beauty and power in it. The collaged materials give a sense of bombardment they are coming forward in a 3D effect, they are alive and animated.
