THE JACK OF HEARTS
Jack of Hearts has five layers.

Layer One – The Jack of Hearts from the traditional English deck was originally known as the knave or a page. In the French decks the Jacks were associated with Knights — the Jack of Hearts symbolized hero Hector from the Iliad.

Layer Two – The Fool from the Tarot, which seems to be to have a natural affinity with the Jack of Hearts. He is not foolish but young at heart and a free spirit open to the world and every possibility. This lightness of being brings with it the risk of being hurt, which is why Jack has a tear drop on his face.

Layer Three – The bottom third the painting is from an Egyptian tomb painting of musicians and dancers who reinforce the creative spirit of the Jack of Hearts.

Layer Four – Hidden behind the musicians and dancers is the Egyptian god, Geb. Earthquakes were thought to be go be caused by his laughter and his fertile and creative energy caused crops to grow.

Layers three and four merged together as a reminder that there is a wildness that goes hand and hand with the creative spirit. You cannot totally control the wild heart without killing the creative spirit.

Layer Five – The image on top of layers three and four is from the Egyptian book of the dead where a person’s heart is weighed by god Anubis against the feather of truth. If the heart is lighter than the feather he will survive and continue into the next world. This is to show that while Jack’s deeds can be risky and lead to trouble, his heart is without malice.
