it is truly amazing what people can do with a pallette knife….you have done very well yourself…..I think with knife work it’s easier with a bigger canvas to get the illusion of detail….what size is this?
Damien Venditti replied
yeah it is … this is 61cm x 46 cm … thanks again : ))

Carmen Cilliers
A very moody portrait with a feeling of almost confused suppression… that is what this evokes in me.
I wonder how long this will take to dry in oils: )
Damien Venditti replied
thanks for your thoughts Carmen …. depressed suppressed … who knows in the two months it takes for this to dry i might attack it again : )
April Mansilla
this gives me a feeling of panic …like you are trapped …instead of building the layers of paint to form you …you took them away….to try and free yourself
Damien Venditti replied
yeah i did the face last and prior to that all i kept seeing was was depression suicide torment anxiety … that grotesque plague …. then i slowly re-emerged … thanks for your views April much appreciated : )
Ed Moore
Hi Damien…this doesn’t look like you at all…it actually looks more like Carmen…ooops, did i say that (ducks)...lol…i agree with april…panic attack time for me…but, nice job, as always…
Damien Venditti replied
LMAO … hi Ed …. i see that too … but i’m reminded of trying to sleep with that look on my face for years also … .who know before the paint drys it may change
Damien Venditti replied
i meant the panic of course … lol
Ed Moore
yes, of course…lol…geeze, and you work with her…geeze, i am a whole world away, and i can feel the vibe…at least i can hide…all you can do is run…lmao

lol …. cool comment CDrew … the paint is so think it will take forever to dry … thank you : ))
Carmen Cilliers
I don’t think you should change it or paint over it. Rather, do another one in two months time and see what comes up. Art is a surprising way of revealing aspects of one’s psyche isn’t it?
Damien Venditti replied
yeah i think your right … i’m likin it for what it is .. the next one will no doubt be different … are u gonna do one?
valzart

hmmm….I find this one very very INTERESTING…......I was just going through the rest of your portfolio and this one stood out from all the REST…...........your VISION in your art is so clear and vivid…with your lines and colors…yet when it came to your own portrait…...it’s all over….and as if you’re hiding behind your own ART!!!! again, I think it’s very interesting when you see this next to your other work…However On its’ OWN….I LOVE it even more…..............there is so much there to see and it has so much feeling behind the face!!! LOVE YOUR WORK! xx
Damien Venditti
thanks for your thoughtful comment Jacqleen ….. yeah different for sure … i’d never painted with a palette knife before and was just experimenting …. then in a minute it sort of emerged … i remember finishing it in the early hours of the morning .. then after the sun came up i found out one of my cousins had died in his sleep that night … maybe tats the sorrow in it … i’ll be doing more with the palette knife for sure tho .. such fun …. thanks again xxx
