Ol JW

My husband taken in Virginia US, natural light from window during a tour of a plantation. He was standing by a window, the room walls, ceiling and floor were all wood panelled. D90, 7.1, 1/100 hand held, ISO 1250, 70mm FL 105. I was very pleased with the result. This is as taken.

nice use of the natural light… an excellent portrait

  • Dusker replied

Hi Jim, you have obviously gone through what I have up. Thank you so much. With my 70-200 Nikon on D80. (Jon and I got the D90 for my sister chijude) ISO 1250, 7.1, 1/100, FL105, but again at that 2 step! I have done a lot of reviewing of the +/ lately trying to get a better hold of how it works. “Think” I have it nailed now, after reviewing Ken Rockwell’s User’s Guide—always learning. Cheers Heather

lovely light for a very nice portrait

  • Dusker replied

Thank you Lisa, I reckon the wooden floors, walls and ceilings actually provided me with a good non reflecting light, allowing just the light from the small window to work so well for me. H

This is a superb portrait. It has the feel of an Old Masters painting, the play of light and darkness serving as perfect counterpoint to the subject. It’s very, very good, leaping off the screen at me while I perused your portfolio. How about adding this to some groups? There are so many of them I can think of. I’d like to see you get exposure with this image as well as with your other work.

  • Dusker replied

Thank you, I am honoured by your comments. I am actually working through all the groups and joining them—up to the E’s! When completed will then add my existing photos to the relevant ones. Thank you for your encouragement. Heather

Yes, I think whalegeek nailed this: quite an Old Masters’ feel to this. (Not that I know that much about art.) I have a distinct déjà vu about this; you didn’t post this at jpgmag or publish this? Never mind. I love it the shadows and the handsome dude.

  • Dusker replied

Is on photosig. Thank you for your kind comments. He is my “old dude” my grandson my “young one”!

Thank you Lois. He was actually playing up to the camera and being a real character—I have to say that I was and remain mightily pleased with the result.
