I love my MAC; it is the best thing ever especially for photography and there are no threats from viruses; you won’t even need a virus protection program! I think you’ve made a good decision, Natalie. If you can afford the BIG monitor, go for it; it’s like watching a wide screen TV! Delightful!

  • Natalie Manuel:

    Yep I’m getting 24 inch!

Love how the old ‘Mac vs Pc’ debate fires everyone up!

I love my macs, and use macs for all my photo editing, but be aware of the downsides to iMac ownership:

VERY Expensive DDR-3 RAM (I’m looking at upgrading from 4-8GB, and it’s going to cost almost $1k)
When you upgrade, you throw out a great monitor
    Upgrading isn’t really an option

Personally, I’ll be ditching my iMac and buying a Mac Pro as soon as I have the money, but given how ludicrously expensive they are, that may be a while!

    Enjoy the new purchase :)

@ Bonnie – that’s not entirely true – there ARE Mac viruses, just they’re rare. if everyone starts using macs, and they are popular enough to make it worth virus writer’s time writing them, we’ll all come crashing back down to reality. i don’t run any anti-virus either, but that doesn’t mean there is NO risk…

Ahhh it had problems and kept turning off itself. They wouldn’t replace it for DOA and insisted on fixing it. So they had it for 2 days and replaced the RAM thinking it was that. Came back and it wasn’t. It got sent back, then they changed the HDD thinking that was the cause. Since it wasn’t a problem that’d happen straight away, they couldn’t always be sure what the problem was.

Anyway, after changing the HDD, then another visit to change the Video Card… they then changed the motherboard. That finally fixed it but by then it had taken well over 3 weeks and I had purchased a new PC already to do my work :)

  • Natalie Manuel:

What a dodgy up, they should have just given you a new one!

I was quite lucky I had purchased a new computer after a week because I would not have been able to tolerate the messing around they caused as well as the downtime in work. In the end, I just smiled, took the computer back, made sure it worked and sold it at a small loss. The new buyer was happy as it was a brand new computer that was discounted and had receipts too!
