Unlike the other big cats, Cheetah’s cannot roar, but they do purr.
Like most of the other animals I have photographed, Cheetah’s are a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and hunting by man. Despite being the oldest of the big cats (appearing millions of years ago) they may be the first to go. Sadly, this photograph may last longer than the species, if we continue to kill them.
50% of my profits from my Cheetah photos will go to the Cheetah Conservation Fund.

You can really see the sadness in his eyes. I think we will lose the amur leopard before the cheetah, but certainly the cheetah’s time could come soon as well. Let’s hope that the world wakes up before we lose more of our amazing fellow earthlings…

Hiya Natalie, you said that Cheetahs dont roar but can purr.
Did you know they are the only big cat that can purr on their in-breath and out-breath (lilke domestic cats? All other big cats can only purr one-way.
Excellent foto by the way!

My sister (Kiah) was in south africa last year and went to a cheetah refuge to, well, see cheetahs.
While she was there she was introduced to a cheetahs whose name is Kyah. Well she was really surprised and that just about made her day, until they told her that the cheetah has a brother. Guess what his name is…
Yep.
Byron. I now have a picture of brother and sister cheetahs Byron and Kiah. What are the odds against that?
cool, huh?

Exquisite. My favorite of the big cats – the fragile Cheetah, the underdog (or cat, as the case is). I wish I could find a ‘help Cheetahs organization’ to work for.
