Artist's Description

This is a large format, wide angle, pinhole image. Taken with a shoebox camera using cut-down sheet film (blue sensitive Aerographic Duplicating Film), this image is a 36cm crop from the full neg, which was 43cm long – 155 degrees wide. Original neg rephotographed with DSLR in sections, then stitched together.

The exposure was around 15 minutes, because of the very slow speed of the film.

Because the pinhole is at the centre of curvature of the film plane, the image is apparently largely undistorted; in technical terms, the focal length is the same across the length of the film plane, so the image scale doesn’t change across the image, and the image appears fairly normal. Image detail below;

The shoebox camera is on the left.
