The book is out by Duncan Waldron

Just published, via Blurb: “From Under a Bushel”. The preview is here.

It’s taken a while for me to get here, to decide I’m finally happy with it – that the text and photo editing is done as well as possible, and all is shipshape. Next: order my copy, and hope it looks fine!

I was really pleased with printing from Blurb – very professional. The only bugbear for me was that I didn’t notice that some headers/footers were showing and some not. I ended up taking them all out and reordering. I was so enthralled by it, I promptly had to do myself another book! :o) Well pleased with the result, especially as I had never seen the images printed!! :o) Good luck.

  • Duncan Waldron:

Glad to hear it. I’ve seen one book from them, in soft cover, and the only problem was the perfect binding coming apart. Other than that, it was fine. I’ll go for the matte premium paper for my copy – I think I owe it to the contents.

    Odille Esmonde...

Duncan, it looks wonderful, you have done a great job. The words read well and the photos are good. I am trying to put together one of these from my NZ trips but boy it is hard picking the images and writing some text – and I am a trained professional writer. A very daunting task.

  • Duncan Waldron:

Thank you for your kind words, Odille; I appreciate your comment about the writing (what do you write?). Putting this together was great fun, and a very pleasant challenge. I didn’t intend to have so much writing in it, but once I’d started, I felt I had to do it properly. Deciding when it was finished and ready to upload was the hard part!

Looks fantastic, I hope you sell loads and loads.

  • Duncan Waldron:

Thanks Cate – x. I doubt I’ll sell many – that wasn’t the reason for doing it – but I wouldn’t mind moving a few (hundred) ;-) If you’re interested in how well Blurb does the job, I’ll bring it next time I’m down in Coffs – whenever that may be.

Hi Duncan sure would be great to see you. I would buy one if I wasn’t a poor starving artist!

  • Duncan Waldron:

No immediate plans, but I hope within the next few months. I’m really doing this as a lower-cost method of printing a portfolio. Get selling your work, woman!

I only went for small 7×7. Bought a basic softback and a hardback with premium paper. Worth the extra for the premium paper for sure – I felt it lifted the images? Oh dear – softback falling apart! BTW your book looks good.

  • Duncan Waldron:

That particular book was produced by an artist-in-residence at the local botanic gardens, and ended up in the adjacent public library, so might have seen fairly heavy use. Still, I wouldn’t expect it to happen this soon.
