Late
Evening street scene in Coffs Harbour city centre.
Canon A460, 5MP. Another way to work with a limited resolution is to mask the fact by using a derivative treatment. Here, I’ve reduced the image to pure BW in Paint Shop Pro. There are several options for getting to a BW final image, including: greyscale, brightness & contrast, decrease colour depth, channel mixer, etc. In this case, I’ve used the reduce to 2 colours method (within which there are several more options).

Thanks for all comments, people. I’m playing around with pure BW tones just now, and taking a leaf out of ragman’s (& others) book, with contre-jour lighting. 20 years ago, I’d have used lith or line film, but now it’s a quick button click :-)

Great shot Duncan. Love the texture and composition.
Duncan Waldron replied
Thanks again Simon. I was going through a gritty BW stage then; might be more to come :)
Joanne Bradley
Excellent shot. I love the capture of light and shadow!
Duncan Waldron replied
Thanks Joanne; catching the light at that time of day, as it disappears quickly, can be a challenge – especially when the subjects are walking all over the place!

Like the B&W image works well. Makes me wonder were he is going. Well done for getting featured in the compact group.
Duncan Waldron replied
Thanks Karen. He’s actually going into the local shopping centre, outside which I was loitering while waiting for she-who-must-be-obeyed. Featured – yes, I’ve hardly been here 5 minutes before they raise me on to the ‘pedestal’ ;-)
Karen Betts
Well done for getting on to the pedestal and obeying she who must be obeyed. lol Look forward to seeing more of your work.
Duncan Waldron replied
Thanks Karen – I’ll try not to disappoint :)
