Grand Theft Photo

In the February 2008 issue of Popular Photography, there is an article of this title written by Neal Matthews and tells of the massive theft of images posted on websites. Photographer, Robert Burch was mentioned of having his images stolen and showing up on 535 websites. It says, even if you go through the long process of actually having your images formally copywrite protected by the government, it is next to impossible to recover any damages. He even had one of his images show up on the 10,000 franc note of Burundi’s paper currency.

It appears that there is no real way for us to protect the use of our images posted onm the web. Even with court awarded damages, chances of ever receiving anything is slim and none.

I am glad I am a Christian or this would be very depressing. I have to put my eyes on the Lord and trust Him in all things, even this.

Those who steal will…those who appreciate, and give, will always. Maybe someday there will be a way to keep the thieves away, but for now we mustn’t let their behavior rule our decisions, so shoot and publish, and enjoy! Jymmi

You are most welcome. It is a shame that our images may be being used by others in this manner, but I guess it takes all kinds!
