Cookie a mature female and Coffee a mature male ~ possibly a mating pair have little chance of survival given the ‘current climate’ for Sharks.

Its ‘calamity’ for them ~ a disaster far worse than “ground zero” with repercussions rippling across the marine biome ~ which will have a deleterious effect on man’s future survival.

Unless radical changes are made to protect life cycles of Sharks ~ the practice of the ‘shark finning’ and ‘shark meat’ industry is and will continue to rapidly rape the marine biodiversity on the Island of Borneo. If populations become too sparse ~ gene pools will weaken and sharks will drop out of the Ocean equation ~ a disaster far greater than 911.

As a Marine Scientist, Underwater Photographer, Wildlife Conservation FilmMaker & emerging Explorer ~ Nicks’ recent film “Colours of the Gulf” documented the plight of whale sharks and other marine life in the aftermath of the Gulf oil spill.

After some careful thought, consideration and consultation with others ~ American or otherwise on this piece ~ I personally have decided not to amend the content.

I sincerely hope that persons Worldwide affected either directly or indirectly by such a disaster can see my thinking in this piece and appreciate that I seek to steer towards a positive event of conservation of species in the wake of all and any disaster…

For those who have suffered grievance ~ the ‘loss of loved ones’ in the event and other such events ~ due to War or Terrorism ~ I am deeply sorry.

It is hoped that man can become enlightened over time and reconcile on Worldly matters.

The loss of apex ‘keystone’ species ~ may be our own demise and as I see it ~ an avoidable disaster through a process of World collaboration.

This is a very beautiful image

  • Thanks Kalaryder. This is one most close to my heart and tugs on its strings… Couldn’t bear not to document such beautiful species ~ although would’ve preferred to have captured their image within Brunei waters… It would enlighten my soul ~ if they were better protected Worldwide… God only ~ knows why more isn’t being done..?! For those following my blog on Redbubble and others concerned about the marine environment ~ you will be pleased to know that of January 2014 ~ the trade of ALL shark species, their fins and also shark cartilage products within Brunei Darussalam with be illegal, in accord with the decree made by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam! Although we continue to lose these species presently until that date ~ both “Cookie” (rescued) and “Coffee” (deceased) thank the Brunei people for their Lives!!! :-)
