A plethora of Blue Spotted Stingrays (Dasyatis kuhlii) align one of many stalls at a local fishmarket in Brunei Darussalam.
It can’t be stressed enough ~ harvesting of species from native waters, which are ‘under-sized’ ~ will have deleterious effects for the ‘sustainable’ supply of fisheries within the near future…
The bluespotted stingray is found in the Indo-West Pacific region including the Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa and Tonga. It is also found north to Japan and south to Australia.
The bluespotted stingray is not listed as endangered or vulnerable with the World Conservation Union (IUCN)
If this is common practice in SE Asia ~ then ‘Globally’ we ~ are “Skating on Thin Ice!”
