A symbolic print ~ illustrating the many colours of the rainforest ~ somewhat similar to the camouflage ‘colours of a commando unit’ ~ dress the sky of the caves of Batu NIAH ~ inland BORNEO ~ Sarawak.
I am not in favour of war ~ I find war ‘reckless & destructive’ and feel that war and wars should have passed by now and humans should move onto more important thinking and issues of concern ~ food, potable water and shelter and space ~ as global numbers and environmental pressures increase.
Kalimantan, Sabah and Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam ~ make up the Island of BORNEO.
Within areas of the Island ~ adverse human impact ~ due to large conglomerate Companies ‘buying out’ small indigenous communities to plant vast hectares of palm Oil ~ directly damaging critical jungle ecosystems and inadvertently creating substantial environmental damage to the nearby coastal systems ~ which provide many with a source of fish.
Removal of Primary Jungle canopy and the associated root systems causes leaching of essential nutrients, critical to further forest growth and surface runoff which smothers coastal reef systems further downland.
Deforestation ~ a loss of essential carbon absorbing plants ~ healthy water retaining systems and biodiversity habitat loss ~ “crucial” life support systems for endemic species such as the Cloud Leopard, Borneo Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant.
Let’s not be ‘gung ho’ about this or crazily kamikaze in nature…
Let’s learn by previous mistakes and not let BORNEO ~ go down in flames like many of the Kamikaze Pilots did during the War…
The Island ~ the third largest in the World needs PROTECTION from any more Palm Oil plantations.
Although some are led to ‘believe otherwise’ from a Scientific perspective ~ this is NOT a “sustainable” ~ nor healthy enterprise!
It is believed that quite a few sunken planes may lie just off the North Borneo coastline… something to attempt to find through exploration in the future…
