The Traders Cave (Gua Pedagang) is used by the local merchants as a trading spot for the swiftlet bird nests. Remnants of huts and sheds erected by the traders are still evident. Birds nest trading peaked between the 50’s till the 80’s. Today raw birdnests can fetch as much as 1,500 pounds per kilogram. As a result the locals are climbing up 20 metres high overhanging walls on wooden or bamboo ladders with a torch tied to their forehead to collect such prized delicacies.
