Artist's Description

I made this painting as a sort of contrast piece to my other theme-work. Because I had mainly been looking at lower to lower-middle class English teenagers, I decided to look back at my American roots by looking at my own grandparents. I see my grandfather as a special example of the idea of the American Dream. When he was in high school, he was his school’s basketball star, but he couldn’t afford to buy a coke for a nickel after a game. He worked very hard during his lifetime to provide for his family and by the end of his life, he had achieved many amazing things.
