Paired with ZR1 Grunge Take 2

Digital art done from a photograph taken of a Hot Wheel’s 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

The photograph itself was an experiment. I wasn’t happy with the lighting. Since my makeshift studio is the office shared by my boyfriend and I, all I have at my disposal is my desk and various desk/floor lamps, overhead light and my creative flashlight duct-taped to another desk lamp. So, since I wasn’t getting what I wanted, I used a Kleenex and waved it in front of the camera while it was taking the picture (had it on timer on the tripod). It succeded in reducing the glare on the toy car while still providing the light needed to make out some details I was focusing on. But, my ultimate intention of doing this experiment was to play with the resulting photo in Photoshop anyway.

Here I applied various filters of my own design. Extracting the car, did some stuff to, created some grime and various effects.

Probably my most worked on image so far to be uploaded onto Redbubble. Would love to know everyone’s opinion. My boyfriend wasn’t a fan of the original photo but when I was done with it, he was in love with it. So, I would appreciate any comments.

Lovely work! Great composition. I like the foreground blur and the “directionality” to it, I love the detail in the bonnet of the car and the soft golden glow of the arabesques. No idea what the original looked like – but this sure looks like the original should have looked like ;o)

  • Thanks so much Eva!! I really appreciate the feedback! I haven’t played around with Photoshop as much as I used to.. trying to shake the rust off. lol. Forgot how much fun it can be!

Awesome work! I especially like the composition and negative space. The lighting is terrific. And I don’t think I would have guessed this was a toy car—it looks like the real thing to me! (Couldn’t view it large though because Redbubble was freezing up on me.)

  • Thanks Colleen!! I’m so glad people seem to be enjoying this piece and the companion to it. I had a blast working on it and to get a positive response is encouraging me to do more. lol… I wish it was a real one :0) Just the $1 Hot Wheels car from my local K-Mart store haha. Thanks again for your feedback! I really appreciate it!!
