Michael Matz and his 1996 Olympic mount Rhum IV.
This was taken at the 1998 Hartwood Acres Show Jumping Festival during the Grand Prix. I think.. it was a long time ago… but I know that’s the location, show, and event, just not quite sure on the year. He showed there pretty much every year. He used to show Iron Spring Farm’s Judgement before retiring and Beezie Madden took the talented stallion over.
For those of you who may be more familiar with horse racing, yes this is the man who was Barbaro’s trainer. He is a wonderful man. I was just a little girl and he was my idol. Such a talented, quiet rider. When he left the ring, I wanted to say hello to him but I was very shy so my dad kind of gave me the nudge I needed. Most Grand Prix riders I’ve encountered wouldn’t have been so nice to some random little girl wandering around with a camera, especially while riding a 17hh Warmblood lol. But he was always very gracious and took his time with the horses he had to warm up before entering the ring. I can only assume he treats his racehorses with the same love, care, and attention.
Scanned from a photo I took with my old 35mm SLR.
