Haiti Relief Effort Thank You and My Own Life/School Update by Victoria DeMore

Posted on February 25, 2010

For those interested, here is an update. I wound up donating 100% of the profits as the total wasn’t that great. I donated $20 to the American Red Cross Haiti relief fund on 2/20/2010. Please visit my blog here for more information regarding the donation.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in my efforts to help… and to anyone who has made any efforts to help those less fortunate in Haiti.

I am considering continuing to donate a portion of my profits from Redbubble sales, but will be finding a specific charity that relates in a way to my typical photographic muse (horses) or most likely it will be some charity to help fight homelessness as I see just in my area it is a huge problem and it breaks my heart seeing so many people who are absolutely destitute. I will keep you all posted on whatever decision I make.

Right now I am entrenched in schoolwork. So if you see me on here less often or in a lesser participatory role, that is why. I graduate this semester, May specifically, so I have a huge senior practicum project as well as my job at the university and trying to find a full-time job so I can pay off my ridiculous student loans. I’m also working towards getting this apartment in a condition that will make it easier to move out of come May. Lots of projects going on, and I apologize for my lack of commenting and discussion on here. Please bear with me.

Oh and for those interested, my senior practicum project is AMAZING. 3 of my classmates and I are working for the Daytona Cubs minor league baseball team in putting together an Emergency Management Plan that will cover fire and tornado/sudden severe weather hazards during games. We are also performing a quasi-risk assessment and recommendations on how to minimize break-ins and trespassing. And lastly, we’re tying in a project for another class, and performing a discussion-based exercise and evaluation program for the ballpark. I just got back from about an hour or so long tour of the ballfield and facilities. Pretty neat getting the behind the scenes tour. Even got to go up to the press box. Shibby! :-D We got work cut out for us though. We have the smallest group out of all the groups in the class, and we took on the most work and number of actual projects to do. Should be exciting as well as draining.

I know of no other “team” that could handle the scope of the projects that you have taken on. You are an inspiration to all, even us old folks, who with enough brains know that you make us be better than we are. Love you!!! And I am totally in awe of you!!
