Help spread the word. I know I had no idea what went on to get pieces featured on the Redbubble homepage. I’m sure there are others out there that don’t know. It’s not like there’s a big button somewhere directing you toward this topic on the Redbubble forums.
So to reveal the secret that has plagued my mind for a while…
You need to go to this discussion topic on the Redbubble forums. Click here
Follow the directions at the top of that forum topic to select your ‘pieces of 8’ and post what YOU want to see featured on the home page.
For example, I created a list of 8 works I suggested ot be featured in the format called for by the forum. This is my contribution to a home page feature suggestion. Welcome my creation… Snow Pets!

Oh! And repost this or your own variation of this journal so others can see how to get works featured. Help your fellow Redbubblers and get more variation on the Redbubble homepage.
Do it!
My apologies if you already knew about this, but I just thought I’d help those who have no clue, like me lol :-P

WTG Torrie.. It’s good to share!
I did not know how it was picked either till a mth ago or so.. It would be really nice to see a wide variety of artists be chosen and allowed to share in that space too. Sometimes I see some “unknowns” there and a lot of times I see the same set of bubblers featured multiple times in a short period of time. I do believe that RED wants to have new artists and some not so known or popular or some who can not be on here full time creating a huge watch list-following-group running situation too. Seems to me that would be the point of the home page.. Featuring art for all the viewers-buyers-lurkers-potentials that frequent R.B. So.. Hats off to you for bringing this to our attention..
BTW_ Love your choices above~ :)

Hi Victoria……..This is a great wee push for the choose the homepage forum….x
You must know that the HP is also picked by RB’s team from Friends of RedBubble Group which is hosted by Peter ,Rhana, community,Natalie and Jo……If you go to Samnnes blog page you an find out who has chosen ie: Chosen By Doreen Phillips or RedBubble and you will be able to see.
Out of the last 7 HP’s 3 have been chosen by RB and if you look back there is always a mix of Members and RB…I think a well balanced mix.
I would like to know why you would like to see RB moderator’s only for to choose the HP?….Just really curios……..x

Oooops….. Forgot to give you Sanne’s blog link …x
Victoria DeMore:
Hi Doreen. Thanks for the info and the input. I was going to send this in a bubblemail, but I’m more than willing to make my view on the current state of HP features known.
Why would I like to see RB mods pic the HP features? As I’ve been looking at the forum I do not agree with certain things like the emphasis placed on selecting work from new members. I have been on here for a while and I know my stuff isn’t bad. I have not been on the homepage yet. I have gotten plenty of comments, favoritings, features in groups, competition top 10s, yet somehow my work hasn’t been noticed.
And I know I’m not alone. There are a lot of members who don’t understand why their own work hasn’t been featured yet. It can be frustrating. Now, I know there are all sorts of ways to get out there more. I am on RB as much as time, class, and work allow me to be. I notice on that forum that there are people who seem to be on RB almost 24/7. I love RB, but I can’t commit that kind of time. I wish that even though I cannot always comment on people’s work regularly or interact on forums, there was a way to get noticed. Even when I was able to regularly interact with other Redbubblers, I didn’t get noticed, so I really don’t know what the right combination of something is to get it right.
Another thing, and people who visit RB to view my work or are also members, have noticed this as well. By just grabbing a suggested HP feature off that forum, some work making it onto the HP makes me even more frustrated and dejected feeling. I feel the HP should be top notch stuff, and some people select work because it’s “cute” or it’s a friend’s work or it’s a brand new member… not necessarily a high-quality piece of photography or artwork. Even if my stuff isn’t featured, I know there is other work that could be featured that is better.
When RB mods selected the HP features, sure I might not have been on there, but I felt better because it was a very very rare miss for a low-quality work to be featured. I think it’s good that members have a way to suggest features, but I would like to see more from RB mods.
I know I’m probably not making any friends by stating my opinion on this. It’s probably not a popular opinion, but I feel like every once in a while someone has to step up and say that they’re upset about the way things are. Can’t always be sunshine and rainbows. Not everyone’s work is a masterpiece. I know there are many pieces I have on here that I really ought to go back and delete. But I wish people were a bit more honest when selecting HP features. Instead of grabbing the work one knows, from people one knows, a friend of a friend or whatever is on the first couple pages of work, actually DIG through what’s on RB. Who cares if there are 1,000 comments on the work, or if the member has been on RB for 3 years?! Reward the work that has received recognition, the stuff that people say they like, from people who have been dedicated RB members for a while.
And that’s my opinion on the HP features, and why I only made one or two suggestions and don’t think I will again. I’m not sure what the best method of selecting features are. (I have an idea about it, but it would take much more programming/coding that I’m sure anyone would want to figure out, especially with so many other projects on the table right now.)
Again, I know I’m probably not making friends my speaking my mind, however bluntly it came out. I’m sorry if I have offended anyone, although I haven’t called anyone out in this. I didn’t know how else to word my opinion than how I did. I think much of the work that gets featured does deserve it, but it’s like nails on a chalkboard when something sticks out like a sore thumb when you know there is better work out there. No one wants to be the person to point it out, but it happens.

Hi Victoria…..I don’t think you will lose any friends over having an opinion….lol…..Feel safe that this will not get any backlash or anything bad from it.
I am just interested to find out why you thought it better to have the RB team choose the HP.
They do infact moderate the thread and if any of the hP layouts are of not a good enough quality they do not make it…
In the last week before valentines all the regular HP pickers were honoured for all the hard work that they do in choosing HP’s ,.with a layout of their choosing which included one of your own.
All the HP’s are moderated and chosen by RB
In all of the HP’s there is usually a mix of T’s and different mediums and RB try to accomodate New and Older members ,as well as the HP pickers from the thread, they do too.You have maybe read part of someone else’s opinions on choosing their own style of layout which to them may just want to be including New members only,That is not the case with everyone over in the forums.
Their’s is too much of a personal style to say that it is only new members that is allowed onto the HP ,although the emphasis is on them for to feel welcome at the first page of that Forum written by Jo from RB.
and that old sayin of *Beauty is in the Eye of The Beholder * holds true for every image that is on the frontpage.
I am sure if you had made some more research into who is on the HP and how long they have been a member ,I am positive that you will find a diverse range of newness ,oldness and style,From RB’s Team and the members who are invited to submit a suggestion for the HP.
I cannot see any difference in quality from RB team and the members at all.And I doubt you can get a more diverse bunch of people who join in on the HP forum and I always look forward to such an Array of ArtWork that ranges from Cute to Abstract in all formats and mediums.
Sometimes you do not have to dig to find Exceptionally Great Art.
It is not in the rules to leave out your friends when choosing a layout…The more artista that get chosen the merrier ,do you think it is ok for to choose from your group?
Why do you think it is wrong?
Balance is a key word here and you cannot balance out what you like against what I like ,such is life and it’s variants.
But RB’s community tries to do this and will always be open for feedback ,new ideas to try in effect to do this.
What is low quality to you?………….You can look back through Sanne’s blog to all the HP’s from 2008 and you can let me know ,if you like.
Sanne Thijs
I understand your frustration of never being on the homepage and feeling you desereve it.
i only have been on the homepage because i make selections on that forum. But it is not why i do it. I actually see those features not as a real feature. just a reward for doing a lot of work.
I make selections because it is great to do. At first i did it because it gives you a thrill to see the selection that you made on the homepage. Now i just do it because it is wonderfull to make a selection from other peoples works. It is something like a collage, puzzling wich works looks best togheter. and making with 8 cropped images a new big artwork.
I have a personal style from picking the 8images. i go and search for illustrations. if i don’t do that i search for colours that work well togheter or a theme that is fun to make. I look at works that have few comments because works with a lot of comments don’t need to be on the homepage, the already have glory without help of the homepage. I rarely take images that have a lot of comments only if they really fit my selection (when no other work does)
If you look around here on redbubble you go automaticly to works that you like, you do that to. It is normal, why would you look at something for fun that is not interesting. It doesn’t say that those works are not good enough. In that forum i learned to appreciate and look at other kinds of artwork. And that is what is happening on the homepage. There is, despite what you say about variation, so many diffrent kinds of works featured on the homepage.
In the last couple of years there have been about 155 people and more taking the time making a suggestion for the homepage. You can’t just say they all have the same style of picking homepages. There are also hosts that make selections to put their group in the picture. i love it when this happens, this is again an oppertunity to see redbubble as a diverse world.
A question i really have for you is, why is it more important that Redbubblestaff chooses the homepage and not just redbubblers? We are all just people with a personal taste. If you reject a homepagefeature when it is chosen by a redbubbler it is like saying you don’t want a present from that person. Are they only good enough to make comments on your works?
Then, Redbubble is full of photo’s. You can find hundreds of photo’s from cats, dogs, plants, etc… . With such an overload of the same stuff it is hard to stand out. Even for redbubblestaff. In the end it is all a matter of pasting the good searchwords on to your work.
i hope you now can also see the good side of that forum. i have made a lot of friends there. because we all love what we do and we wan’t to talk about it.
greets Sanne
p.s: sorry about my bad english, i am not that good at it.

I have already stated my opinion on why I would like to see more RB mod involvement. I do see the benefit of having that forum, but personally, I like the HP features the RB mods do just fine.
I’m glad that forum exists so that people can make friends through it and voice their opinions.
However, I find this interesting: I had posted several times on there about a month or two ago. Some people responded explaining the forum to me. Not long after I found that forum, I posted this journal entry because I know many RB members don’t know how the HP features are made or selected, or just plain don’t know that they can make suggestions. I have made 2 suggestions for HP features, 1 of them was selected (one of the Haiti HP features were works I selected). This journal entry has existed for over a month now… and it wasn’t until I made what appears to be an opinion that upset people on that forum, on Redbubble announcement, that anyone actually checked this out and responded.
I know I ask questions, I know I question things. It’s who I am. Maybe I’m questioning things too much, but when I don’t understand something, I want to and I ask. I don’t understand how some people are featured all the time while others are not. I don’t understand why a work that already has received many comments doesn’t deserve to be featured. I mean, if it’s obvious people like it, Redbubble should featured it because it’ll draw more people to look at the site and possibly purchase work. That would make sense to me.
I guess at the time when I first appeared on that forum I did ask too many questions, as I didn’t make many friends from it. And now that people are actually coming to my profile and looking at this journal entry, I’m sure my questioning and voicing of my opinions is off-putting to some people. (Maybe not you Doreen, I appreciate your curiousness and openness, but I know others don’t like what I’m saying).
Perhaps I said things the wrong way, or it was just not received correctly. My official stance is that I’m glad that forum is there. I’m glad members do have a say. Heck, if members didn’t have a say on Redbubble, we’d be stuck with the ghastly borders on the greeting cards. I’m glad RB takes members’ ideas and thoughts into consideration. It’s what makes this a great site and why I’m still here despite disagreeing with a few things in the past. I’m just saying, in the past when I asked how HP features were selected I had been told moderators look for popular work, put pages together based on keywords, or they look at people active in the forums/commenting on others work/etc. I feel like it was even more of an honor making the HP when the actual comapny RB was selecting the work.
I have looked at your blog that lists all the HP features as well as who they were made by, and I want to thank you for putting something like that together. It really is a feat as I’m sure it takes time you could be spending on other things to keep that running, just for all of our benefit. To me, it seems like the majority of features are selected from that forum, not by RB (although now by seeing that blog, I see that there are RB selected HP features where I didn’t think there were before, I’m willing to admit I was wrong).
I do make comments when I can on others work. I comment on work I see that I like. Please don’t suggest that I’m only on here to receive comments on my own work. Maybe that’s not what you meant, but that’s how I read it. I don’t really understand what you mean about rejecting a HP feature being like not accepting a gift. I’m not calling anyone out, just saying what my opinion is. Again, we all have our own tastes, right?
I did enjoy posting suggestions on there when I did. It is a rush to see something you put together featured on the HP. How many regulars engage in that forum? I will again go back to my experience on the forum as that is the only experience I know. I asked questions, posted some ideas, tried to be engaging… but again, didn’t make any friends. I suggested that the forum be promoted more so more people would participate or at least know how HP features are selected, (hence why I originally posted this journal entry). I made an attempt at using that forum to make friends, show that I was interested in it, but I really never received much encouragement or interest from the regulars into who I am… until I make the unpopular suggestion of more RB mod involvement on a completely different forum. How am I supposed to read that?
Obviously I had seen the good side of the forum, or else I never would have made this journal.
