During the first time I explored Siena’s Piazza Duomo, I captured this image before falling in love with the beauty and majesty of that Tuscan town’s cathedral. The square was packed with locals, as well as tourists, but this woman seemed unaware of them. How she appeared caught up in her book and almost childlike reminded me of all the times as a child I devoured Nancy Drew books no matter how much activity went on around me.

My life as a global nomad (about 22 years) continues to influence my writing and photography. When I lived in Shanghai, I went through a sea change of sorts, resulting in a major shift in my writing (from fiction to memoir) and a great new love, photography. Currently my husband and I live in Garland, Texas, near our daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters.

What a great image – her own bit of solitude. I love her feet sticking out – very childlike indeed. Great work.

  • Thanks, Jodie, and thank you for stopping by.
