What a cutie. Excellent capture. Wish you could have put the poem up as well. Would have loved to of read it.
Katseyes. The poem is one of Burns’ most famous and lays out his thoughts after turning over a fieldmouse nest whilst ploughing. The verse from which the title of my photo comes is:
I’m truly sorry man’s dominion Has broken Nature’s social union, An’ justifies that ill opinion Which makes thee startle At me, thy poor, earth born companion An’ fellow mortal!
Probably the best known verse from the poem contains the most quoted line:
But Mousie, thou art no thy lane, In proving foresight may be vain: The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men Gang aft agley, An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain, For promis’d joy!
What a beautiful capture.!!…A perfect illustration to accompany my great great great great grandfather’s poem…add another ‘great’ for Georgie (above).. :))….Straight to the faves for this sweet wee mousie. :)
Thanks Meg. How great it must be to have Rabbie as one of your ancestors. Wonderful. I was born and brought up in Ayr, Scotland and have had a copy of Burns’ poems around since as far back as I can remember
