Beautiful …is that an Akhal-teke? (spelling?)

  • Dan Shalloe replied

    Hi Caroline,
Thanks for the comment – yep, it’s an Akhal-teke. One of the oldest known breeds of horse anywhere in the world.
    Cheers, Dan

And along with Arabs …one of the most beautiful – and your picture really does the horse justice.. Never had the pleasure of riding one (have an Arab though:) )

I love these horses and this one is particularly beautiful. Dan, can you tell me how to pronounce Akhal-teke?

  • Dan Shalloe replied

    Hi Sande,
Thanks for your comment! “Akhal-teke” is a tricky one to pronounce. The “Akhal” bit is almost as it looks, but the “h” is slightly gutteral, like the “ch” in the Scottish “Loch Ness”. “teke” is like the English word “take” with an extra “e” (not “ee”, like sheep, but “e” like “bed”) at the end. Practise it with your friends and let me know how you get on :-).
