I was fortunate to be able to get several great photos of gorillas at my last trip to the zoo. This one was only a few feet away from me, just sitting, thinking. With a slight grin on his face, I have to wonder what his secret is.
This is a lowland gorilla, and like all the great apes, is an endangered species.
Drawn in charcoal on bristol vellum, 2008.
Original 13″×17″ available, on exhibit in Minnesota from Feb 8 to Mar 25, 2010.
This is a drawing, right? It’s awesome enough to be a photo with a treatment applied in photoshop, so I wasn’t sure. This is fantastic, Heather! You really captured a wonderful expression. So realistic and true to life. Beautifully done!
Oops, I forgot to add that part to the description… Thanks Lisa!
