Black on White - Black Rhinoceros by

The black rhinoceros is distinguishable from the white rhinoceros by the shape of its upper lip, not by its color. Critically endangered, the black rhino resides mostly on the eastern coast of the southern half of Africa.

Drawn in charcoal on vellum, 2008.

  • Yup, it’s a black rhino.
Thanks for the comment! It didn’t turn out quite as I’d hoped, though.

    yeae.. i guessed correct.. n_n
is it because of the body texture and the tusks? i think it’s pretty ok.. can’t always produce the best.. sometimes, it might look better after a second try at a later time? =D

  • Yeah, Mostly the body. I’ve never drawn skin like this, so I was kind of making it up as I went along. He just doesn’t jump out of the page enough for me, I guess. Practice, practice, practice!
