I wrote a chapter on Adolescent
Development, in a book, Becoming
Female, titled,“On The Road To Find Out,”
one of the amazing songs of the most
profound and brilliant songs performed by
Cat Stevens. I asked preadolescents,
adolescents and post adolescents, what
groups or individual musical artists and
lyrics of songs they preferred?
Cat Stevens was one of their favorite artists. I loved his songs in the 70’s, and of course like most Stevens’ songs, "Wild World " is simply
brilliant. I pay attention to the lyrics and
if you think about it, he may be actually telling his former lover that he lost everything to her and
feeling that she made a fickle choice for novelty and infatuation and that she may regret
leaving him after she finds out how destructive
the world is without his protection.
The lyrics of this song reflects his deeply meaningful feelings. The music
of the 60’s and early 70’s are
incomparable, a time of a cultural
revolution and fascinating musical artsts.
When I listened to the amazing artists like Cat Stevens and Tina Turner who performed on the campuses of UCLA and UCSB where Charlie
and I would listen to many performances
of Cat Stevens and many other phenomenal
musical artists like David Bowie, Tina
Turner and many others. I have a long
playlist of many songs in past
decades that I plan to pair with my
photographs. I can listen to this song thousand times a day, the best melodies and also his
great songs merged in every aspect that produced a better creation. It depicts the reality of the world
and like John Lennon’s, “Imagine” is
preserved for future generations.Ths song like many others composed by Cat Stevens like,
“The Peace Train” and the poignant
“Father and Son” are magical themes of
daily life. There are many interpretations of this song To me this song symbolizes a dad singing to his daughter greiving over the fact that
she’s going away to start a new life
as an adult. It’s a wonderful song. It’s always
a big pleasure listening to the passion
so powerful and emotional Wild world this is our reality ,Music is the best way to express our selves ,even though english is my third language I enjoy listening to such lyrics
I feel blessed by the wonders of amazing
people:The thing that is so great about this
song is that it is about pure love. All he wants is for the other person to be happy. He is greiving and heartbroken, but he understands. No matter what, he will continue to be there for her. There is no fear or taking it back. The love is still there for her even though she decided to go another direction. I is the next right thing and living in harmony with the principles of love. In the age of sensation, infatuation cools down and what was once perceived as a beauty mark becomes a
mole!! Like the fox who told “The Little
Prince”, "What is essential is invisible
to the eye and felt with the heart. ":
“Wild World”
“Now that I’ve lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it’s breakin’ my heart you’re leavin’
Baby, I’m grievin’
But if you wanna leave, take good care
Hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there
Oh, baby, baby, it’s a wild world
It’s hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it’s a wild world
I’ll always remember you like a child, girl
You know I’ve seen a lot of what the world can do
And it’s breakin’ my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you sad, girl
Don’t be a bad girl
But if you wanna leave, take good care
Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there’s a lot of bad and beware
Baby, I love you
but if you wanna leave, take good care
Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
but just remember there’s a lot of bad and beware
Oh, baby, baby, it’s a wild world
It’s hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it’s a wild world
and I’ll always remember you like a child, girl”
Many thought he wrote the lyrics of this
song to his sister or lover, Patti D’arbanville.
This image is a drawing of my husband,
Charlie’s wonderful illustrations and we
have begun collaborating on many pieces.
I do the post production work and narrative.
