The primitive images on this rock give the impression of a cave during the Egytian Dynasties. During this time, communication was visual etched on walls of caves, the most famous being the French caves of Lascaux. I see many images of animals, people and dwellings that tell ancient stories in this primitive context. The detailed imagery is best seen in the large format.
Julie, as you know Jung pointed out that the development of neurosis is the attempt by the Unconscious to compensate for a too-one-sided Ego -consciousness that is producing imbalance in the psyche. It is a sign that we are not seeing things we should be seeing, not allowing change in areas we should be changing, and not accepting things in ourselves that should be accepted if we are to progress towards wholeness and become more truly ourselves. Inconvenient and at times distressing symptoms do in fact have a purpose. they are attempts of our self -regulating psyche to heal itself, and to point us in the direction of the necessary changes that need to be made in our lives and the way of thinking. When I look at this wonderful work you have displayed and are sharing with all of us, I am in awe! You see things others do not see! You explain everything for the benefit of us all! This is excellent and has a great deal of holistic properties, from which we can all benefit and restore balance!Sx
Nice work Julie!! I find Sophie’s comment very interesting…though i must be honest- i can’t see anything particular here…i’m struggling to figure out what exactly has been painted. But still think it looks pretty and intruiging :)
Sophie, your comments are a gift. You are so thoughtful about the wisdom of Jung and others who understood that there can be no birth of consciousness without pain in our quest to achieve balance in the psyche. In most aspects of my life, I do perceive things that others do not see. Too many people don’t want to see and you know the consequences of massive denial. I am delighted that you liked this piece and understood its primitive nature etched on walls and your appreciation of archetypal imagery. Your words are very inspiring!
Hi, Dr. Jones. This is a photograph of a rock that impressed me with the etchings on walls before humans developed a verbal language. I am delighted to hear from you.
Blamo is right. Order is information, and we always look for known patterns to get some information out of apparently randomness. It easy to see many things in this abstract image. I especially like the bull on the right.
Do you know if our ability to see forms in this kind of abstract scene is uniquely human? And to what degree are the images we see determined by our life’s experiences? …is this the basis of the Rorshak(sp?) tests? If yes, the images I see can be connected to the same source as the dreams I experience, yes?
