Nurse Molly Nightingale

Nurse Molly Nightingale by Julie Marks

Nurse Molly Nightingale

Mikey was hospitalized for one night after having two benign tumors removed. Molly was visibly upset not knowing where her beloved friend had gone. She is accustomed to sleeping and cuddling with Mikey and cried for hours after he left in the early morning for surgery. Molly tends to be a bed hog so she slept on my head like she did when she was a young puppy. When Mikey returned with stitches, we were hoping that Molly would not want to play rough with her senior friend and as dogs often do would nurse him back to health. I took several photos of Molly spooning with Mikey and never leaving his side until he was more comfortable after the surgery. She was his pain medication and perfect antidote to the sterile atmosphere of the hospital. This applies to humans as well since they often recover more quickly in the comfort of their own home. This photograph reinforces the narrative about my photograph, Mikey, Therapy Dog. Molly’s sensitive and loving attention to Mikey demonstrates that dogs experience joy, sorrow, fear and despair and above all loyal and loving to their loved ones. This is one of the poignant photos of Molly’s relief as they both fall asleep validating the power of healing through touch and comfort of a warm puppy.

Thanks so much Wendy. I wish people received the loving attention that animals do. Unfortunately some of us don’t understand the healing power of touch and loving devotion.

Thanks Tabitha for you wonderful comments. These two love each other very much and the book, Dogs Never Lie About Love, is clearly demonstrated by this endearing photograph.

Thanks for your lovely comment Patricia. We were all relieved that Mikey was healthy, but noone can express the tender loving care as well as our sweet Molly.

Jamie. Thanks so much for your endearing comments. I took several shots that expressed the emotion of Molly’s great relief when Mikey came home and needed our tender loving care. I wanted to capture how warm and safe she felt that Mikey would be ok. Nothing quite compares to her pure emotional expression and the special bond they both share. Her healing touch was what he needed for a comforting recovery. Dogs intuitively know how to heal their loved ones with amazing care and tenderness.
