Both Sides Now

Another photo in my clouds series. I felt like I was enveloped in clouds
while driving in Los Angeles. This is an unusual break from the crowded freeways of weekday traffic. I shot this through the windshield so I choose artistic intent over seeking perfection which is a healthy step for me as a self-taught photograper. It is very easy to become addicted to photography and RB and in time like the clouds, we can feel overwhelmed without much time to pay attention to our vocation and/or advocation. Although I don’t have the time to comment on all the talented artists on RB, or to respond to everyone who has been so supportive of my work and the host of the group, the healing journey, I am very appreciative of your comments. I had heard there was a group
clouds so I just checked it out. The name of the group is “both sides
now.”

Even when posted, we always have the choice to remove the photo (at least that is what I tell myself :) Since I associate to many songs when taking photographs, at times I think I have an ipod in my head. Joni Mitchell wrote a song in the 60’s that was covered by many artists. In addition to loving her poetic and legendary songs, the song that she wrote, “Both Sides Now” is timeless. The song using the metaphor of clouds, captured the mood of the day and is symbolic of the dark and light realms of the human condition. If we look for it, the light will shine through. There was so much to see on this cloudy day that I am glad I was not driving. This image has the most impact when viewed in the large format. My first perception is a lady in the upper right corner. I look forward to reading some of your perceptions of this cloudy skyscape.

“Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
Ive looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on evryone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
Ive looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its cloud illusions I recall
I really dont know clouds at all

Moons and junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As evry fairy tale comes real
Ive looked at love that way

But now its just another show
You leave em laughing when you go
And if you care, dont let them know
Dont give yourself away

Ive looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
Its loves illusions I recall
I really dont know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say I love you right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
Ive looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say Ive changed
Well somethings lost, but somethings gained
In living evry day

Ive looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all
Ive looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all.”
