This magnificent church, which was built between 1733 and 1735, stands in the grounds of Witley Court, Worcestershire. The Court was devastated by a fire in 1937. The church was the only part of the estate not damaged.

stunning work, especially love the use of selective colouring. Always found this whole place to have such a spooky atmosphere, and you’ve captured that perfectly
Thank you for this great comment and for adding the image to your favourites; both greatly appreciated. I am in awe of Witley Court’s atmosphere, it is ghostly and a bit sad. It’s one of my favourite places in the whole UK but I wouldn’t want to be there after dark!
I went here after dark once – never again!! It was in the days before English heritage took it over. Very run down, the fountain was in a terrible state of disrepair and the atmosphere was incredibly spooky. I’d gone with an ex boyfriend who wanted to photograph the sunset, there were some very strange noises near the dilapidated conservatory -needless to say I hotfooted it back to the car!
I moved to Worcester in 1989 and visited Witley Court soon afterwards so I remember the state it was in even though English Heritage had taken it over. I went with an ex-girlfriend! I remember thinking I was glad that it wasn’t being made into a posh stately home again, though, I think that would rob it of its special character. I once heard a rumour that George Michael wanted to buy it! I’ve read somewhere that the main fountain (Andromeda?) was at one time destined for the middle of Worcester, near the Elgar statue. Can you imagine New Year’s Eve? Or any Saturday night for that matter….
must’ve been about ‘86/87 when I was there at sundown, we used to go there a lot during the day, but there was always something about that place, in fact the whole area that used to spook the bejesus out of me! Maybe because it was so isolated? Since found out a lot of ancestors came from that area, so maybe they were haunting me?? LOL I can imagine absolute carnage if that fountain was ever placed in anywhere near the Cathedral roundabout on New years!!….don’t get me started on Worcester council’s devastation of historic buildings and new monstrosities that replaced them, makes me seethe!!

Another winner David!
Thank you, John. This is one of those I took a while ago and left to gather dust. Don’s HDR b&w group has inspired me to dig out those old cast offs!
