Always (Song lyrics)

The fiery skies are black tonight
as boiling smoke blocks out the light
Monstrous machine of industry
it’s always hungry
The deaf and blind with dreams unknown
with silent cries are carted home
to a loveless box they call their own
a living graveyard.

A toxic rainfall from the clouds
an acid blanket coming down
even the rich don’t smile now as they count their money
Their fevered souls toil on in vain
as planet Earth cries out in pain
nature hangs her head in shame that we’ve forgotten
Mother
Father

Never of freedom, always of desire
Always from the pan into the fire
Gone is our laughter, lost way back in time
Gone our only reason to survive

The gods of old have gone away
and pious fools sit in their place
They’d damn us all to save their face
I don’t believe them
A crumbling nation’s foolish pride
in death resorts to genocide
If ego lives we won’t survive

I’d rather die than lose my way
I’d rather fall than have to say
this numbness crept into my day
I was becoming
Never of freedom, always of desire
Always from the pan into the fire
Gone is our laughter lost way back in time
Gone our right to keep this race alive.

The sleepers in their sleep sublime
they’d better wake cos we’re out of time
and no-one’s come to save the world
as darkness in our souls unfurls
In the depths of eternity
our tiny world, an island floating
in a vast uncharted sea
Why destroy this beauty?

Always (Song lyrics)

A raging condemnation of man’s stupidity, this song lyric appears on the first “Immaculata” album, and I thought it was completely appropriate for an environmentally aware group. Although not constructed specifically as a stand-alone poem, the lyrics read rather like one anyway, and I couldn’t resist submitting them. Anyone interested in hearing the song need only send me a message…

This makes me think of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, excellent writing.
