The Sleep of Reason

While testing out the new (at the time) Aquarel pigment sticks, I needed a large project on paper, so I got the biggest sheet of paper I’ve ever seen and launched into a drawing that would end up taking me 6 months on and off.
The sleep of reason begets monsters. I consider this my masterpiece at this point because it took the longest time, I used a new medium, and it’s the largest work on paper I’ve ever attempted.

The Sleep of Reason belongs to the following groups:

1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture, Masterpiece: Art, Out of the Blue and SANATORIUM B

    what is aquarel pigment sticks

They were a range of water-soluble cosmetic grade pigment in plastic tubes which were being manufactured locally about 15 years ago. I believe you can buy them now under another name… they are half pastel and half water colour, so you can achieve some great blending.

I am certain it looks even better in large scale up close as I keep noticing the finest detail.

Thanks Dawn… although the thing took six months obviously that was not working furiously but at a leisurely pace, often leaving whole weeks before doing a bit at all.

The frame cost more than the work… as a poor pathetic student I nearly got myself into debt just framing the bastard.
