Hadley

An inkling of my thought last night
Flew up and out, the moon was bright
It fled along the darkened roads
In search of one I used to know
It looked and found a tired soul
Who once I loved, but did forgo
So lonely on the glittering grass
His lips were whispering as I passed
How earthly love did break his heart
And ripped him when we broke apart
My room is cold, I sleep alone
My bed feels like a broken bone
Within it lies a bitter shell
No more desire, no more hell
He searches for another home
Yet still I love him, now you know..

    Jim Phillips

Very passionate, both image and words. What is your medium?

  • Garth Horsfield replied

Hi Jim, thankyou. Medium is a mix of ink, acrylic and gouache… except the gouache wasn’t working out that well so I stuck to acrylic instead.

This is so wonderful Garth…the light and hatching on the face is brilliant. I looked at it for a few minutes before I noticed the road behind him, then I read the words and it all makes sense. Well done!

Oh, Garth. I’m speechless. So beautiful and superbly executed I’m teary. A masterpiece.

  • Garth Horsfield replied

Why thankyou Paul… now if I can just figure out how to use other colours except blue, heh.

  • Firedrake

    Firedrake

It does look very mature. Funny, blue’s the colour I hardly ever seem to use! I’m working on changing that :)

  • Garth Horsfield replied

I think it’s a mood thing… blue is such a moody colour, but the blue ink I use also happens to bleed through acrylic just the right way; good for detailed ones.

He seems to be looking back in melancholy. Perhaps regretting leaving you behind. Something of you remains with him still. In dreams you whisper in his ear.

This portrait and the words are very haunting. Nicely done!

  • Garth Horsfield

    Garth Horsfield

That’s sweet. Funnily enough he popped in today and passed out drunk on my couch. Not lost, just searching I guess. Aren’t we all?

  • eyrebrush

    eyrebrush

WOW! So powerful! Congratulations, Garth, on a wonderful and moving piece of work. I love it. Must have taken hours to produce this! So much thought and work gone into it. A very vivid and moving projection of your soul.

  • Garth Horsfield

    Garth Horsfield

Thanks eyrebrush. I found some of your photos very powerful too; like Caravaggio in the lighting. I’m working on a way to capture those sort of colours in painting, but I think I have to switch to oils for that, acrylic just doesn’t seem to get there.

  • Simon Aberle

    Simon Aberle

    This is absolutely incredible!
I remember in art class at high school many many years ago we had to create a painting or drawing using variations of only one colour. My art teacher would have loved this!

  • Garth Horsfield replied

Ta Simon… I think my old art teacher might have approved too… we did some hideous exercises involving limited colour, but I was too young and didn’t get it. I’m not saying I still do, but throwing every blue you have at a page works.

Holy (insert appropriate expletive here) Batman! This is amazing! Really, truly, and completely… I simply don’t have an adjective worthy of description. I love everything about this. Thank you. Awe is something foreign these days, yet I find it here.

  • Garth Horsfield replied

You flatter sir, but thankyou… (pass me the Bat-Blush-Repellent Robin) hehe.
