this is like fairy land… the pinkness of the sky is just on another planet… the colour seems to have changed for Qld…. great shot…..

  • drec replied

It was strange with the sun directly over head as a small blue circle, all windows and water reflected a blue-ish tinge. I’ll be out the door soon to see what happens for sunset.

Cool. I ducked out at lunchtime and shot just near my work in Nerang. Looks much the same (without the trees, buildings and beach, obviously)...

  • drec replied

Lawrence Drive? Just drop that in next to Cavil Ave – won’t look out of place.

Got a shot this morning from a mate in Sydney, looked the same, you Ausies don’t do things buy halves! ;-)

  • drec replied

Sydney got the best deal though, dust storm at sunrise… I’ll be back out for a sunset shot and I’m really hoping the skies will pop due to all the dust particles floating around. Tomorrow I’ll clean my sensor.

Excellent shot – seems ‘other wordly’

  • drec replied

Might make one ‘Other Worldly’ in photoshop. Got a couple of ideas.

Cool drec, I wasn’t even game to take my camera outside up this way.. bit crook though so didn’t really feel like heading out anyway.

  • drec replied

Cheers.Had the wet weather gear on and a filter for protection but the body still managed to get dust on it. I’ll clean my sensor tomorrow – depending on dust around.

wow, tis great light drec, maybe a bit spooky but very effective!

  • drec replied

I’ll post one straight out of camera, this I removed some of the yellow cast slightly.

A totally awesome sight, I love how you’ve caught this massive dust storm – now for the clean up…yuk!

  • drec replied

Was a sight though I’d prefer Sydney’s conditions. Saw plenty of enterprising kids washing car windows at traffic lights.

Spectacular image drec and I’m sure it’s not the last that we’ll seen from this impressive event.

  • drec replied

Thank you. I have never experienced anything like this before. There must be some huge hole in the ground somewhere for this to cover a fair sized area of land. Might look for some satellite images.

A different kind of Gold today, that’s for sure. I didn’t even go outside except to take a photo from the balcony. Hope it’s gone by tomorrow.:)

  • drec replied

I saw a couple of stars out and there’s still fair bit of dust floating around from the wind. Sunrise might be colourful.

Nice one mate, a bit of a different view of the Goldie.

I checked out the surfcam on the intemet, some amazing scenes by the beach today!

  • drec replied

The surf was pretty clean outside Surfers, wind was blowing off shore and the blanket of dust was stretching out towards the horizon

Incredible, aye Drec? How is your camera?!! Fantastic shot!!

  • drec replied

Few spots of dust on the inside, nothing really major as I have my Digital Survival Kit on stand by for events like these.

Think not having my bigger zoom working 100% helps with me not changing the lens by the beach too.

oh wow, how freaky!! A great capture of something you probably won’t see again! Or maybe you will. Thanks for sharing – I’ve been hoping to see some dust storm images :))

  • drec replied

Was a weird experience. I sat out and waited for the dust to roll in thinking, this won’t be the best to breathe. I doubt I’ll see one like this for a long time.
