The Devil's Marbles

This is back from exile, a change in My Bubble direction.

On my drive back to work(Gold Coast to Yulara) I got to stop ever so briefly here and managed to take a few photos before getting behind the wheel for the last driving stint. Would have loved to see this place in different light but time was a factor. The Devil’s Marbles, Northern Territory. I will return one day.

Beautiful shot, love those vibrant colours :-) Such an amazing location

And to think I could spare only ten minutes here. Too much good countryside went by at 130km’s

Only in Australia hey Drec ! lovely composition, fantastic colour!!

I slept on my car on the Barkley Highway and had no tripod, shutter release handy. The most stars I have ever seen at night. I’ll do this drive for pleasure one day.

Fantastic framing and exposure and all… this reminds me a lot of the stone hills outside of Lone Pine, CA which are actually called the Alabama Hills. Like them, this photo has an otherworldly appeal. I really dig this man… fantastic shot!

  • drec replied

Thank you. It’s quite empty along the highway and you take the slight turn off and here are all these round rocks scattered. Go over the next hill and it’s back to an empty landscape.

Great contrasts of shape..with the rocks and the grass…and terrific colour contrasts. I like that the picture disappears into the horizon. well done :)

  • drec replied

It’s a wide open landscape and yeah, it does just disappear into the horizon. Must return.

Wow… beautiful… vibrant!!! I think we all have places we need to return to…. : ) Isn’t art/photography a wonderful thing… making us create travel plans just so we can ‘create’!!! Love it…

  • drec replied

It is. On my return home past here(big full moon rising) the area was closed to fires. Wasn’t meant to be.

What amazing light and shot – not sure what you want to do differently here. Great stuff!

  • drec replied

Thank you. This was round the middle of the day and I would like to go back for a sunset/sunrise to see the colours in the rocks under a different light.

Drec, now I understand:-) You’re right, these are strong colours – and just great! But it would be interesting to see the warm or cold colours of a sunset or sunrise. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Polariser filter? If I’m right, it’s a fantastic example of why everyone should have one in their kit.
    Great image.

  • drec replied

Out here, shooting in the middle of the day you definitely need a Polariser. Just wished I could have been here for sunrise/sunset.

What a place; I would love to be there in your footsteps!

It is something magic – though I only had a few minutes to stop. I will return.

I love the light that you did have drec, beautiful bold contrasty colourful light has its place too and really suits the red, white, blue & green of this shot.

  • drec replied

Cheers. I have to get back with some spare time one day. 150km an hour doesn’t let you see much. But that’s work commitments. Maybe next year.

You can get late light some other time. This is a great pic with sky drama – works well!

  • drec replied

    Thank you.
I was in a bit of a rush driving Gold Coast to Yulara(Uluru) and could stop for 10 minutes here. Next time I’ll take a long time to cover the distance and shoot along the way.
