Main Beach

The hi-rises of Main Beach with lightning going out to sea. Forgot my wet weather gear today and caught on the wrong side of the bridge as I was watching a cell to the north and one moved in behind me. Overlooking the broadwater, Gold Coast (06/12/08)

stunning work mate, as ever…how long was the exposure on this one?

  • drec replied

I try for no more than 30seconds at night, boats have a tendency to move turn and being festive time, lots of traffic on the water

Top shot! Tried to get this storm from down my way but the clouds were obscuring all the streaks and didn’t catch any then had to do a bolt over the hill home before the non water camera became a water camera! This is unreal – how wet did you get? Cheers, Paul

  • drec replied

No rain coat or plastic bags so when I did eventually cross to the northside of the bridge, pretty wet. It’s fun doing this on a push bike.

Fantastic shooting Drec!! Great shot from the wrong side of the bridge!!
BTW, just wanted to tell you this is an instant favorite of mine:))xxx

  • drec replied

Unfortunately, this was the tail end when I got across to the north side, with wind and rain shooting cg’s from the south was impossible, I’ll upgrade my mobile phone so I can pick up the radar while chasing storms so nothing sneaks up from behind

Drec – this is awesome. I think you’ll have a bit of action for your photos this year, by the look of the storms.

It has been good so far, last year about this time I was cameraless for 3 months. Today’s storm forecast has been replaced with fine….....

26 days of no storm activity over the gold coast(only day was the 1st this year) You’d think with hot and humid conditions something would flare up.

I’ve studied your work, and to me this is one of your best!

  • drec replied

Thanks. Sometimes it’s hard to get the boats to sit still long enough from here. Better prepared for this upcoming season though.
