Excellent – The lightning is perfectly positioned and the light on the cloud is just lovely. This image is great as it is but have you considered cropping the sky down a bit to turn this into a panorama?
Murray Swift

You have an amazing ability to catch these storms in all of their glory! Such beauty in all of them! I love how the cloud in this one is lit up too, very striking against the dark sky.

THIS IS AN AWESOME SHOT AND REALLY SHOWS THE ENORMASNESS OF A THUNDERHEAD AND THE LIGHTNING. HAVE YOU TRIED A VERTICLE CROP JUST TO THE LEFT OF THE MAIN THUNDERHEAD AND JUST TO THE RIGHT OF THE SMALLER THUNDERHEAD AND LEAVING OUT THAT BRIGHT LIGHT. I COVERED MY SCREEN WITH A NOTE PAD ON EITHER SIDE LIKE THAT AND IT REALLY BRINGS EMPHASIS ON THE LIGHTNING BOLT OVER THE MARINA. BUT, YES, YOU DO EXCELLENT WORK, I JUST WISH WE HAD MORE STORMS LIKE THIS IN CALIFORNIA. WE ONLY GET THEM IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE STATE ABOUT ONCE EVERY 4 OR 5 YEARS. WHEN I LIVED IN HOUSTON WE HAD THEM ALL SUMMER LONG, BUT I WAS TO BUSY BEING MARRIED AT THAT TIME TO CHASE LIGHTNING BOLTS. I WISH I HAD TAKEN THE PHOTOS INSTEAD. BOB

Some wonderful shots of lightning and storms. The formation and colour of the thunder head is what does it for me in the shot.

This started of as a day time chase that disappeared out to sea, only to return at sunset. So in between I shot some clouds, a few surfers and a bit of lightning on my way home. A rewarding day.
Trish Bell
awesome, awesome shot!

Fantastic!!!

What sort of camera settings did you use for this one?
drec replied
Lens at 18mm, iso 100 and 20 seconds @ f5.6. By the looks at my file in lightroom I edited this before I calibrated my monitor – seems little darker then Marina Mirage

That’s such a good shot, Drec. I’ll have to get some tutoring on lightning shots. I’ve got a couple, which I’ll upload, but I seem to miss the best shots. We get a grandstand view from up here during the storms.:)

You’re lucky with your view. I was carless last season so I chased these riding my bicycle, good way to try and keep fit. The wheels are back on the road so I’ll be chasing a little further this year.
Vicki Ferrari
Wow Drec! This is amazing! Incredible actually! Fave!

I would like to see a rule that all the ugly looking houseboats are parked more out of sight…....It was a good storm to watch and chase this one.
