I was informed this week by a childhood friend, my boyhood home was recently demolished. The old neighborhood had changed dramatically over the last 20 years and upon visiting in 2009, I was appalled at the condition.
Today, cleaning out a closet in my mountain cottage, I discovered my mother’s old sewing box on a bottom shelf. As a small child I was enthralled with poking around at all the bits Mom had squirreled away inside.
Opening the box and smelling the very old spools and thread drew me back half a century to the dining table where I used to play with the spools and buttons. This image captured on the same table…
