Today, I chose to do a painting on an issue that is close to my heart.
Save The Arctic
is a campaign to save the Arctic from being drilled for oil on offshore and industrial fishing. The campaign is headed by Greenpeace which plans to have the Arctic region declared a sanctuary by the United Nations.
The group aims for a million signatures on a petition calling for an end to oil exploration and unsustainable fishing, which will be planted on the sea bed.
Paul McCartney, Robert Redford, and Richard Branson are celebrities who support this campaign.
I am proud to be among the millions of petition signers, but the drilling was, of course, approved. So I chose to do a artwork to help further carry the message on Save The Arctic. It is another step that I can do.
I just discovered this morning 9/17 that the 2 million that signed against arctic drilling have been successful in stopping drilling for one year!
It is a step and the efforts and awareness need to continue though, but there has been a positive impact by everyone’s efforts.
