Stonewall: this is my history by

Featured in Diversuality

I recently, watched the documentary Stonewall Uprising. The words from Martin Boyce, who participated within the riots, became a image in my mind. This image is based from his description of the day after the riot:

“The day after the first riot, when it was all over, I remember sitting the sun was soon to come….and I was sitting on the stoop, and I looked at that street. It was dark enough to allow the street lamps to pick up the glitter of all the broken glass and all the debris and all the different colored cloth that was in different places as if an artist had arranged it. It was beautiful. It was like mica. It was like the streets were strewn with diamonds.
It was like a reward. " – Martin Boyce

I am in shadows because back in the 60’s they called us, among other things, the twilight people.
Martin is whom you first see here on the video:

Stonewall:
When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in the Greenwich Village section of New York City on June 28, 1969, the street erupted into violent protests that lasted for the next six days. The Stonewall riots, as they came to be known, marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights movement in the United States and around the world.

A very mysteriously compelling way to bring, such an important piece of history, center stage. This is my history strikes an emotional chord. Perfectly executed, Draven! BRAVO :)

  • Jaeda, I wanted to portray from that era of time within the image. I chose the b&w and darkness in lighting to be true to the atmosphere of then. Everything was hidden, much more then now. It is my history and I am proud and I cried when I watched the full, documentary. I cried in happiness for their bravery and compassion to change things. Thank you for your support.

Most younger people have no idea, Draven : keep the history! One must know where one has been to know where you are now. There were Giants.

  • They were Giants and I love each one.
