Headed to Sea With a Whale Tail Off The Bow by

Phillip Charles “Phil” Harris (December 19, 1956 – February 9, 2010) was an American captain and part owner of the crab fishing vessel Cornelia Marie, which is featured on Discovery Channel’s documentary reality TV series Deadliest Catch. (more below)

Harris began fishing with his father at age eight and after high school began crab fishing. He initially worked on a crab boat unpaid until he proved his worth. By the time he was 21 he was one of the youngest captains of a crab fishing boat on the Bering Sea. He had been the captain of the Cornelia Marie for more than 20 years at the time of his death.

Side Notes:

The Alaskan shellfish industry averages 400 fatalities per 100,000 workers.

The show itself has inspired me and teaches about various subjects: Geography, family dedication, hard work values, nature, and nautical life.

IMAGE CREATION
Drawing time was 12 hours and created with pencil and coloured pencil. The boat was completed first and whale tail and sea gull done separately.
Then I built the image by mounting the whale tail and sea gull to main image to create a further, sense of depth. Total work hours were 14.
