Tension XIII
Something ‘new’....
Someone who shall here remain nameless recently encouraged me to have a go at ‘light painting’. I’ve been inspired by this technique for some time as it is used by 2 amazing Norwegian artists here on RB – Roy Skogvold
and Ove Bohnhorst
My work in this style though, is still a continuation of the type of concept on which all my work is based…..
Sony Alpha 350, Sony f1.4, 50mm Lens, f22 @ 13 Sec Exp in total darknes, selectively lit with a large Dolphin torch, ISO 100, tripod, remote shutter release.
Please have a look LARGE for the detail again – thank you :)

love the movement and intensity…. can you please tell us more about light painting HUGS xxx sounds very interesting :)
DragonFlyer replied 21 days ago
thanks for your lovely comment jillijude! Light painting is essentially shootin slow exposure in total darkness and illuminating parts of the frame with a torch or other moveable lightsource. check out Roy and Ove’s work for some absolutely AMAZING examples, and, if you are interested in more of a read, have a look here
There was a challenge on using this technique here, and lots of questions re the technique get asked and answered in this thread. My earlier image ‘The Burning Bush’ is also made using this technique…

Interesting effects and how you used light to accentuate the elements.
DragonFlyer replied 21 days ago
Thanks Mary! It was a lot of experimenting and trying it to see what effect came from what as I’ve not done much light painting before, but I think the technique works quite well with the elements in the image…

Ouch! don’t cut yourself darling.
Great work K. Don’t know anything about light painting but this sure is a strong image of tension. Well done !

Thanks for your care friend – interestingly – I haven’t cut myself on these special “broken for photography props bits of glass” EVER…. must be some special glass that breaks without those terrible razor-sharp edges… (it’s an old fish tank cover glass)

Dear K
Your work is soooo totally new to me.. But I say yes to this principle!
VERY difrent photo’s!!!! And THAT is what i like .. try and dare to be different…

greets from Holland
John
ps
Over weekend going to ‘study ‘your work !
DragonFlyer replied 19 days ago
John – thank you very very much for such a response to my work! I do try to do what comes from ‘me’ – not anyone else, and I have been learning very very hard all of this year since I joined RB.
I am very very pleased you find this ‘different’ (and whether a childhood is ‘bad’ does, in the end, depend on what each of us makes of it – doesn’t it?)
:)))
